The following information, tools, resources, protocols, templates and systems are based on real-world engagements I have had with hundreds of male and female leaders in the C-Suite at a range of companies from growth-stage venture-backed to the largest private and public Fortune 100 companies in the world in their category.
There are no silver bullets, and what works for one leader may not work for another.
There is a specific type of leader - their personality, psychological and emotional profile and leadership style - who benefits most and thrives in the leadership curriculum and system detailed in this newsletter including my leadership curriculum “The New Zero™.”
The system is not everything for everyone- that would make it worthless.
Leaders who truly thrive do the following things and exhibit one or more of the following traits and that is what The New Zero ™ is all about:
➢ Self-motivated
➢ Self-reflective; Ability to honestly self-assess
➢ Highly disciplined - they make commitments not just decisions
➢ Performance-driven not outcome driven mindset
➢ Are willing to and actively seeking to identify tradeoffs to be made regarding their time, energy and resources to progress towards their goals
➢ Majority of their validation is secured via internal examination, not external
➢ Seeking to be actively (not passively) advised, coached or mentored
➢ Expect honest, transparent and even brutal feedback, the type they cannot secure from their peers or stakeholders
➢ Lean into their worldview being challenged and are amenable to its evolution
➢ For women in leadership positions, they demand to be treated as any man with their title, areas of responsibility and authority. Specifically, they feel peers are not interacting with them any differently than with their male peers and they are “not being treated like a woman.”
There are lessons to be learned and applied at all levels of an organization from an individual, performance-based professional development perspective.
Those who can benefit range from aspiring leaders entering the professional realm completing an educational milestone from high school through a top-rated MBA program, to entrepreneurs and startup or small business founders, and lower and mid-level management to senior leadership on the path to the C-Suite or boardroom in any corporate environment.
When individuals make the decision to focus on performance over outcomes, they make the commitment to implement tradeoffs in their professional and personal lives to realize smaller gains compounded over time rather than focusing all-or-nothing on a specific outcome – that is the path to measurable, meaningful growth and self-actualization.
That is the path to realizing a career and life filled with results rather than regrets. At every stage, every milestone, every challenge on the journey it is your responsibility to your stakeholders but most importantly to yourself to actively choose:
Results Over Regrets.
